Are you dissatisfied with the look of your smile because of chips, cracks, stains, or worn teeth? Dr. John P. Krueger can rejuvenate your smile with LUMINEERS®, an especially thin alternative to traditional porcelain veneers requiring little to no removal of tooth enamel. They are bonded to the front of teeth to cover imperfections and create a look of beauty and symmetry. To learn more about LUMINEERS®, contact our Palm Harbor, FL, office today.
LUMINEERS® versus Porcelain Veneers
Traditional veneers require some removal of dental enamel - equal to the thickness of an egg shell - to achieve a natural-looking fit. LUMINEERS®, on the other hand, are similar in thickness to a contact lens, and require little or no alteration of the tooth. While Dr. Krueger may slightly score the front of your teeth to create a stronger bond with your LUMINEERS®, or remove a very small amount of enamel to achieve a proper fit and look, the teeth are left in essentially the same condition.
Candidates for LUMINEERS®
To determine if LUMINEERS® are right for you, Dr. Krueger will look at the size and shape of your teeth. He will also take careful note of your goals to determine if LUMINEERS®, veneers, or another solution is the best way to achieve the look you desire. If, for example, you have naturally large teeth, veneers may produce a more natural-looking result. Meanwhile, it is important to understand that LUMINEERS® tend to be more costly than porcelain veneers. Dr. Krueger will provide you with an estimate for the cost of each treatment before you make a final decision.
The LUMINEERS® Procedure
During your initial consultation with Dr. Krueger, you will discuss your goals. If he determines LUMINEERS® are right for you, Dr. Krueger will evaluate your smile and its proportions to determine what size, shape, and shade will best complement your smile. Dr. Krueger will take impressions of your teeth, which will be used to shape your LUMINEERS® for a precise fit.
Once your LUMINEERS® have been ordered, they will arrive in just a few weeks. During your second office visit, Dr. Krueger will check your LUMINEERS® against their corresponding teeth to ensure a proper fit and look. Next, he will bond them in place with a strong adhesive. When your LUMINEERS® treatment is complete, and you can leave our office with your dazzling new smile.
Caring for Your LUMINEERS®
With proper care, your LUMINEERS® can last for 10 or more years. They are resistant to chipping and fracturing, and more stain-resistant than natural dental enamel. To keep your LUMINEERS® clean and bright, you will need to carefully brush and floss at least twice each day or after each meal. During your biannual appointments with Dr. Krueger, he will check each of your LUMINEERS® to ensure that they are still bonded securely and undamaged. Dr. Krueger can provide replacements as needed.
