Receiving Dentures Typically Spans Several Appointments

Traditional dentures and implant-supported dentures are among the most popular ways to replace large amounts of missing teeth. Although you might be worried that dentures will not look or feel natural, you should rest assured that Dr. John Krueger provides extensive attention for every patient over several appointments at our Clearwater, FL, practice to ensure that your dentures fit and feel very natural.

Because our practice takes great care to create custom, long-lasting traditional dentures for every patient, the denture process typically takes one month. If you choose implant-supported dentures, the entire treatment process will typically take three to six months or more.

Process for Traditional Dentures: Up to One Month

The entire process for receiving new dentures can take up to one month from start to finish and is broken up into several appointments.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Krueger will:

  • Review your oral health and number of missing teet
  • Look for active gum disease, cavities, or infection that might need treatment first
  • Ask about your treatment goals, including the desired size, shape, and shade of your new teeth
  • Share our patient gallery with you to help you get an idea of what your dentures can look like
  • Take impressions of your smile to send to our trusted lab

The purpose of your consultation is to determine whether you are a good candidate for dentures. If you are interested in implant-supported dentures, we can design a custom treatment plan for you and schedule out your surgery.

Denture fabrication
Dentures are fabricated based on impressions taken of your teeth so that they fit as comfortably as possible.

Using your unique impressions, a trusted technician at our partner lab will craft your dentures out of carefully selected, high-quality materials.

When your dentures are completed, you can return to our office for a fitting. Dr. Krueger will test your bite and make sure that your dentures fit comfortably. If adjustments are necessary, they will be sent back to the lab with detailed instructions from the dentist.

Most patients receive their final, permanent set of dentures within a month of their first appointment.

Process for Implant-Supported Dentures: Three to Six Months

In contrast to traditional dentures, receiving an implant-supported denture is typically a few months longer because of dental implant surgery. The procedure and recovery will add three to six months to your treatment. If you need bone augmentation prior to dental implants, this may add an additional four to six months to your treatment timeline.

Receiving a new set of dentures can take anywhere from one to six months. But with proper care, your dentures will look and feel great for many years to come.

After your surgery, you will come back to our office to receive your abutments and custom dentures. Choosing implant-supported dentures at our practice is very convenient because you can receive implant surgery and custom restorations all with the same dentist.
